The beginning of 2024 is marked by the dedication ceremony of the largest project ever undertaken by the ACA Group.

RUBI Line - METRO DO PORTO

January 11, 2024

The project, with a total investment of 435 million euros, marks a significant milestone in the history of the ACA Group and is the largest project under the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The Rubi Line is characterized by a 6.4-kilometer route, both at the surface and in tunnels, featuring eight stations and a new crossing over the Douro River, the "D. Antónia Ferreira, Ferreirinha" Bridge—one of the world's largest reinforced concrete arch bridges, spanning 838 meters in total length.

The project aims to strengthen connections between important urban centers, from Casa da Música station to the Campo Alegre university campus, commercial areas, the Arrábida hospital, the historic district of Gaia, and neighboring tourist areas. The social, economic, and environmental benefits of the Rubi Line are estimated at 1.7 billion euros.

It is expected that the Rubi Line will attract 12 million new passengers and, above all, contribute to the reduction of 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide during its first year of operation. With an estimated completion by the end of 2026, Metro do Porto anticipates that this project will be a key element in improving mobility in the region and a sustainability milestone in public transportation.

Simultaneously undertaking the three major engineering projects for Metro do Porto (Circular Line, Yellow Line, and Rubi Line) makes this "Metro" project the largest ongoing endeavor in the country.

The ACA Group reaffirms its commitment to innovation and growth by leading this transformative initiative in the Portuguese infrastructure landscape.
